ATTENTION Cheltenham festival experts!!

February 9th, 2012 by Robert Catterson

For those who reckon they know everything there is to know about the biggest National Hunt festival of them all, you will get your chance to shine on the run-up to this year’s Cheltenham festival when Horse Racing Ireland hosts a Cheltenham festival quiz.

And the good news is that the Cheltenham challenge will be concentrating on the festival from 1980 onwards. Being held in aid of Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, many of National Hunt’s biggest names are expected to turn out at the giant quiz later this month when horse racing folk will be put through their paces on the ultimate Cheltenham test.

And this in turn will offer the racing public their first ever chance to pit their wits against some of the best jockeys, trainers and racing media that National Hunt racing has to offer.

“We were inspired to organise this event by RTE’s Six One Sports reporter Colm Murray, who recently featured in a documentary about his battle with Motor Neurone Disease.” said a HRI spokesperson last week when launching this fundraiser. “Colm is famed for being a fan of horse racing and, in truth, I think the same can be said of the industry and their fondness for him.

We expect this night to be hugely popular and we already have some of the top names in the racing game on board to test them on the topic of the biggest National Hunt festival of the year.” added the HRI representative. Some wonderful prizes have already been donated for the big night by horse racing’s top names, on both sides of the Irish sea, and each team, which will consist of four people, costs €40.

Tables are already limited for this eagerly awaited event and with tickets very unlikely to be available on the night itself, it’s advised to book early. If you like your odds of succeeding in the Horse Racing Ireland Cheltenham festival quiz, to be held in the Osprey Hotel in Naas, Co Kildare on Wednesday 29th February, please call 045-455411, 045-455422 or 087-2107868 or by emailing your entry to quiz@hri.ie.

And with some of the biggest names in Irish racing expected to be in attendance on the night, there may very well be some Cheltenham tips going on the night as a bonus.
