Day 6 Tips
The penultimate day at Ballybrit and another fine competitive card on offer. With plenty of value to be had today, we will adopt a safety in numbers approach.
2.25 – Galway, Gentleman jeff sp, 4.30 Galway Enchanted Forest sp 1 point win double
Both of these are too short to back individually, but they look worth a bet for a double. Gentleman Jeff has some useful placed form over hurdles and shaped well on his reappearance on the flat, behind Gracchus a week ago. Enchanted Forest was an eyecatcher at Gowran two starts ago and may have run into a useful sort when beaten at odds on last time. He should make amends here.
2.55 – Galway, 1 point ew Sunwake 12-1 Widely available, 1 point ew Sebadee 25-1 Bet365, 0.5 point win Silverhand 14-1 Betfred
Sunwake ran an excellent race here on Wednesday, cruising throughout, before finding three miles too far. Dropped back in trip and off the same mark, Paul Gilligan’s mare should go close.
Sebadee looks overpriced judged on two fine placed efforts recently. He was an unlucky loser at Cork in a race that has worked out well and subsequently posted a decent effort behind Grey soldier at Bellewstown.
Silverhand is worth a small win bet. He is quite well handicapped allowing for Tim Carroll’s claim. He has competed well in much higher grade and although the stable form is a worry, it would be unwise to dismiss this geldings chance.
4.00 – Galway, 0.75 point ew Ask Jack 7-2 William hill, Bet365
I thought Ask Jack won a shade cosily here on Tuesday evening. Hopefully Chris Hayes will again be able to get him in front early and I think he has sufficient pace to cope with the drop back to 7 furlongs today.
5.00 – Galway, 1 point ew Genesi (16-1 Stan James, 14-1 elsewhere), 0.75 point ew Golan go (25-1 paddy power), 0.5 point win Mr Bones (12-1 Paddy Power)
Genesi had some decent form last year and has shaped with encouragement on both outings this year. She’s not guaranteed to stay two miles on pedigree, but she ran reasonably well over that distance at Killarney last time. This daughter of Daylami may be a little better than her handicap mark.
Golan Go has a very good second over hurdles to his name, splitting useful sorts Mosstown and Gimli’s Rock at Listowel last year. He was an eyecatcher at Ballinrobe on his reappearance making rapid headway before weakening in the straight. This son of Golan has plenty of stamina in his pedigree and while stall one is an obvious concern, I think there are races to be won with him.
I have to have a small bet on Mr Bones. In the past he has competed off 77 on the flat and runs off 68 here. He seems to have improved over hurdles recently and ran well here behind Novel Investment on Wednesday.
5.30 – Galway, 3 points Ew Henro Boy 10-1 Bet 365, 2 points ew Sparkling Tara 11-2 William Hill
I think its worth taking on the market leaders here with these two.
I thought Henro Boy ran very well here on Monday evening behind Fort Defiance. He finished very strongly having suffered a troubled passage. Today’s opposition may not be as strong and this Craigsteel gelding could pounce under Steven Crawford.
Sparkling Tara has the best form on offer, judged on some fine efforts last year including Galway behind Natural High. He hasn’t run since, but local trainer John Hanlon could have him primed for a big run.
