Gowran Park preview

After the highs and lows of Cheltenham it’s back to slightly more mundane fare on the home front this afternoon with a seven-race jumps card at Gowran Park.

Several of the midweek heroes will be in action during the course of proceedings and Davy Russell – successful on Weapon’s Amnesty in Wednesday’s RSA Chase – may keep up the good work on the consistent Farringdon in the featured 2m4f handicap hurdle. The top-weight can race off the same mark as when a close fifth to Dancing Tornado at Naas earlier this month and won’t be inconvenienced by the overnight softening of conditions.

Cass Bligh was an impressive winner of a 2m maiden at the last meeting here and appears to have solid prospects of a follow-up over course and distance in the novice hurdle. Russell was aboard on that occasion but is required for Gates Of Rome this time.

Brian O’Connell bounced back from Tuesday’s Dunguib disappointment by riding a double at Down Royal on St Patrick’s Day and will be hopeful that Woodbine Willie can belatedly get his act together over fences in the beginners chase, where the very useful P’tit Fute looks the chief threat.
