Secret World has conditions to suit
February 22nd, 2012 by Ray FlanaganThree selections today perhaps more known for their inconsistency than anything, but hopefully they will put their best hooves forward.
Punchestown 2.05: Won In The Dark (3-1)
Only a five horse race, but a tricky little puzzle to solve with any of the first three in the betting all capable of winning. Indeed, I would not be surprised to see the lower rated Torino Bay emerge on top, yet nevertheless,I will take a chance on the enigmatic but talented Won In The Dark, to be revitalised by a break and bounce back to winning form.
A useful performer at his best capable of a decent turn of foot, Sabrina Harty’s gelding should benefit from the relatively dry weather over the past few days which has hopefully dried out the ground. His best form of last season, including a third to Big Bucks at Aintree, entitles him to clear preference and despite two poor shows on his final couple of outings last season,he could be a different proposition first time out.
Ludlow: 2.05: SECRET WORLD
An easy two miles on good ground looks tailor-made for Secret World and perhaps he can finally fulfil the promise of his Autumn 2010 second to the smart Act of Kalanisi at Newbury.
Following that highly promising hurdling debut, he has been well fancied on subsequent outings but surprisingly has failed to fire more often than not. At the same time, he has not been disgraced on occasion either, with his Taunton second to Shammick Boy, a year ago, not a bad effort either.
Nicky Henderson should have him primed for today following a recent spin in a National Hunt bumper and although getting a bit long in the tooth now for Novice Hurdles at the age of nine, he looks to have a decent opportunity today.
Doncaster: 3.30: ATOUCHBETWEENACARA(9-2)
An all veterans chae here and after a solid effort on Saturday last, perhaps Atouchbetweenacara is ready for a belated return to the winners enclosure. Venetia Williams charge has been struggling in better company for the past two years in truth, but might be allowed more his own way and get the run of things in this contest today. His fourth at Wincanton on Saturday was a fair effort and only for a costly blunder at the penultimate fence he might have finished closer.
He has in the past been a somewhat weak finisher but faced with less demanding company and receiving weight all around, he has a better chance than usual of getting into the winners enclosure.
