Throw it all on the Spin Of A Coin

February 3rd, 2012 by Gary O Brien

As has been largely the case of late the fare on offer is ordinary enough but there are nevertheless winners to be found and Eddie Lynam, who is steadily building up a claim to rival Ger Lyons as the top trainer at the track, has plenty of good chances once more. Perhaps the most interesting of Lynam’s strong team is Spin Of A Coin, who shaped well on his return from a lengthy absence when third to stable-companion Akasaka here a month ago and now has the very capable Sam James to take 5lb off his back in the 1m handicap at 7.20. Blinkers are also refitted on the son of Oratorio, who may have most to fear from prolific course specialist Knockgraffon Lad.

Roman General, one of two representatives for the yard in the three year-olds only event over the same trip half an hour earlier, has largely been disappointing since making a very promising debut at Leopardstown last summer but may be worth a final chance now that he drops into handicap company for the first time. With James on board stable-companion and top-weight Choral Society here, Billy Lee comes in for the mount on the Holy Roman Emperor colt, whose chief threat is likely to come from Kedleston – who landed a gamble in emphatic fashion last time.

An Saighdiuir and Tsar Paul, first and second in a 6f contest here a week ago, renew rivalry in the opening 5f handicap and over today’s shorter trip the latter may be able to exact his revenge. James Nash’s charge is admittedly not the easiest to win with, but such was the ease with which he travelled into the final furlong seven days ago that he makes most appeal despite being raised 1lb.

Selections:
Tsar Paul 4/1
Atmospheric High 15/8
Roman General 11/2
Spin Of A Coin 7/1
Awareness 7/1
Knights Templar 7/2
Indian Scout 20/1
New Experience 8/1
