The Premier League Weekend Picks

February 3rd, 2012 by Michael Hughes
ARSENAL v BLACKBURN, Sat 1pm,
The Gunners struggled to put Bolton away last week and with Rovers better away from Ewood Park, it could be another long afternoon, but they must still be taken to win.

RECOMMENDED BETS: Robin van Persie 1st Scorer (5-2, general), Arsenal 2-0 win (11-2, general), Arsenal 2-1 win (8-1, general)

STOKE v SUNDERLAND, Sat 3pm, Live on Setanta
Sunderland are flying under Martin O’Neill, but Stoke are no pushovers and I can these two cancelling each other out.

RECOMMENDED BET: Draw (23-10, general), Jon Walters Anytime Scorer (12-5, Paddy Power).

WIGAN v EVERTON, Sat 3pm

The Toffees will be delighted with their win over Manchester City, but Wigan showed plenty against Spurs and I can see them getting a vital win.

RECOMMENDED BET: Wigan win (13-5, general)

NORWICH v BOLTON, Sat 3pm
The Trotters are improving, while Norwich will want to forget their trip to Sunderland where they were mauled by the Black Cats. I think the Canaries will bounce back here.

RECOMMENDED BETS: Norwich won (Evens general), Over 3.5 goals (2-1, William Hill).

WEST BROM v SWANSEA, Sat 3pm
The Baggies nicked a late point at Fulham on Wednesday and they can make the most of Swansea’s poor away form to get a welcome win.

RECOMMENDED BET: West Brom win (11-10, general)

QPR v WOLVES, Sat 3pm

Wolves are looking in a pretty desperate situation and they don’t like they can turn it around soon. The Mark Hughes factor got in some good names in the window and I back them to win.

RECOMMENDED BETS: QPR win (20-21, Boylesports), Over 2.5 goals (17-20, bet365).

MANCHESTER CITY v FULHAM, Sat 5.30pm, Live on ESPN
Fulham are almost as bad on the road as Swansea and I take City to get a morale boosting win at the Etihad.

RECOMMENDED BETS: Man City 3-0 win (15-2, general), Man City 3-1 win (10-1, general), Sergio Aguero 1st Scorer (3-1, bet365)

NEWCASTLE v ASTON VILLA, Sun 1.30pm, Live on Sky

The Magpies maintained their form very well and the fans will see the rejuvenation of Sunderland as a great boost to keep going. They should have too many options for Villa.

RECOMMENDED BETS: Newcastle win (11-10, general), Demba Ba 1st Scorer (5-1, bet365, Paddy Power)

CHELSEA v MANCHESTER UNITED, Sun 4pm, Live on Sky

United seem to have the edge in the title race, they are digging results out and have players to return, but this is a massive test and the Blues will be up for it. Home win.

RECOMMENDED BET: Chelsea win (6-4, general), Chelsea win by one goal (3-1, general)

LIVERPOOL v TOTTENHAM, Mon 8pm, Live on Sky
Liverpool got an impressive three points at Wolves, and always do well against the bigger sides. This could be too close too call, so I might just enjoy the spectacle.

RECOMMENDED BET: No bet

ENGLISH FOOTBALL LEAGUE
There seems to be no let up in the unpredictability in the Championship but three sides I think can do the business are Brighton (2-1, Victor Chandler), Blackpool (7-2, Ladbrokes) and Reading (6-5, Ladbrokes).
In League One Chesterfield (15-4, bet365) and Sheffield United (5-4, general) are worth backing as are Crawley (19-20, SportingBet), Barnet (4-1, general) and Burton (6-1, bet365) in League Two.
